The leaves of the Indian almond tree (Terminalia catappa) contain many beneficial substances (e.g. tannins, amongst others). They act as mild disinfectant and fungicide, and can thus be used preventatively against fungal infections of spawn but also as a treatment or prophylaxis of fin rot, mucous membrane problems in fish and moulting problems in shrimps.
The pH is only slightly lowered, the total mineral content (conductivity) is marginally raised. The water assumes a beautiful amber hue after some time, however, it stays crystal clear.
