The Japanese artist Takashi Amano has inspired many aquarium hobbyists to keep Riccia fluitans submersed by binding it to rocks with the help of a thread. New shoots will always grow towards the water surface and thus need to be trimmed with scissors from time to time. Under water, Riccia fluitans grows best when CO2 is added. Under good conditions, oxygen bubbles will form on the shoot tips. It is a great protection for fish fry.
